Personality rights shouldn't be used to curb parody, caricature: Delhi HC
The Delhi High Court has cautioned against the invocation of personality rights to extinguish caricature, lampooning, or parody which may not be commercially exploitative. The court made the observation while granting protection to Physics Wallah founder Alakh Pandey against the use of his name, image, and other attributes from impersonation and monetisation by third parties. The educator alleged that several internet platforms and users were monetising his name, image, etc, through social media posts, sticker packs, videos, websites, and suchlike means. Some of this content was vulgar and sexually explicit, he contended. In the interim order passed on August 5, Justice Anup J Bhambhani opined that he would grant protection to Pandey for three sets of violations: content that is sexually vulgar, content that monetises his personality without any licence, and impersonation. India, Gulf Cooperation Council discuss next steps on free trade agreement
India has reviewed the negotiations on a free trade agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), as the country's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Vipul, held wide-ranging talks with the secretary general of the six-nation bloc, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, in Riyadh. The meeting took place on Sunday, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen India-GCC relations, exchanged views on regional and international developments, and reviewed preparations for a ministerial meeting scheduled next month, the GCC Secretariat said in a statement. Enzo Maresca hails 'perfect day' as City rally 2-1 win; Liverpool draw late
A big welcome from the fans at the start. A stoppage-time winner at the end. For Enzo Maresca, it was the "perfect day" as he earned his first victory as Manchester City manager. City produced a stirring late rally in Maresca's first Premier League game in charge, scoring twice in the final 10 minutes to grab a 2-1 win at home to Bournemouth on Sunday. Josko Gvardiol placed a finish into the bottom corner in the first minute of added-on time for the winner, which was initially given offside before being awarded following a video review. Marc Guehi had equalized with a 84th-minute header from a corner to start the comeback. Maresca, the successor to Pep Guardiola, punched the air when Gvardiol's goal was awarded and went onto the field after the final whistle to hug his players. A huge banner, reading "Welcome back Enzo," had been held aloft by City fans as the Italian - Guardiola's assistant in City's treble-winning 2022-23 season - emerged from the tunnel before kickoff Wearing

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin says he won't run against FIFA President Gianni Infantino but warned the beleaguered head of world soccer that he must either quit or face a leadership challenge in March. Infantino has come under increasing pressure to step down over his plan, now aborted, to sell stakes in soccer's biggest tournament, the World Cup, to private equity investors. India is in negotiations with at least 8-9 more groups of countries and individual nations that together account for another USD 15 trillion of GDP, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday. He added that the country's free trade agreements would eventually cover about 75 per cent of global trade and help position India as a trusted partner in global value chains. India women bow out of Hockey World Cup after goalless draw with Australia
The Indian women's hockey team succumbed to the pressure of a must-win match and were knocked out of semi-final contention after playing out a goalless draw against Australia here on Saturday. India needed a win to advance to the last four while a draw was enough for the Aussies to make it to the last four on the basis of more number of goals scored. The goal difference for both teams stood identical at minus two but Australia had three strikes compared to India's two. Both teams had drawn their opening Pool D match against China. The Indian team, which had performed brilliantly before losing to the Netherlands by two goals in the first match of the second leg, looked out of rhythm on the day. They missed several chances and struggled to retain possession against Australia, ranked just one place above them. Chief coach Sjoerd Marijne even substituted goalkeeper Bichu Devi in the final five minutes trying to throw the kitchen sink at the opposition but to no avail. Having finished

Rupee rises 7 paise to 95.64 against US dollar during early trade
The rupee traded in a narrow range and rose 7 paise to 95.64 against the American currency in early trade on Monday, supported by a softer US dollar, but simmering geopolitical tensions kept it from making strong gains. Forex traders said the Dollar Index has weakened, but elevated Brent crude and persistent importer demand limited the rupee's gains. Moreover, investors are treading a cautious path as Washington is set to unveil a fresh wave of sanctions on Iran, targeting its oil trade, banking network and shipping routes. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 95.68, then rose to 95.64, higher by 7 paise from its previous close.
